Charity run of the 5th grade of the Einhard Gymnasium Aachen: Running together for children in Namibia

Last week, we fifth graders at our school started a very special project

a charity run for the benefit of children in Namibia under the motto “Einhard runs through Namibia”.

Every day from Monday to Thursday, we ran, sweated and did something good. But not only

The focus was not only on sporting commitment, but also on dealing with an important

Topic – healthy nutrition and supporting children in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.

Every morning we started with a short discussion about how to make our lunch boxes healthy and

The focus was on fresh fruit, whole grain products and the importance of sufficient

Fluids – everything we need to be fit and healthy. Afterwards, Ms.

Boßhammer introduced the children from Namibia who would benefit from the money from our charity run.

Children do not have the same opportunities as we do to go to school or play sports, and this is exactly where

We wanted to start. We had set ourselves the goal of walking across Namibia and thereby

to collect a lot of donations so that the children at the Bernhard Nordkamp Center (BNC) can pay school fees and

Sports equipment can be financed.

Then we went to the sports field at Chorusberg, where we did our runs. Every day we ran

three times 30 minutes, with a 30-minute break in between. We had been looking for sponsors beforehand –

Parents, friends and neighbours who wanted to support us for each lap we ran (350m). This was not just a

It not only motivated us, but also showed us how much our environment supported us in our endeavors.

At the end of the week we had achieved great things: together we ran more than 1000

Kilometers! To put that in perspective: That is roughly the distance across Namibia from

Skeleton Coast to the South African border. On the way, at least in our thoughts, we are thinking about the children in

Windhoek, for whom we had organized all this. The incredible sum of 7500

We were able to raise euros through our efforts – a success that we are all extremely proud of!

At the school festival on Friday we proudly presented our results to the other students,

Teachers and parents and Mrs. Matthies handed over the money to the non-profit organization on behalf of all of us

‘Wadadee Cares eV Together we celebrated our achievement, which was not only impressive in sporting terms,

but also represents a valuable contribution for children in Namibia. The money collected will be used there,

to enable sports activities and school visits – things that are natural for us, but for the children

in Windhoek, however, can be a great help. So that we can get to know the children in Namibia even better

we would like to start a pen pal relationship with them. We will then write to them in English who we are

what we experienced during the project week and that we are very happy to get to know them. We are already

super excited to hear what the BNC kids will say.

This project week has not only shown us how much we can achieve through teamwork, but also how

important it is to help others. It was a week full of exercise, fun and above all: solidarity. We

We are really looking forward to the next project week and the exchange of letters with the BNC kids.

The fifth-graders of Einhard
